BELGRADE
And the people who live
there…
Get to know us, we are
Slavs who, after the Celts, the Romans and many others inhabited this
city that rests in the embrace of two rivers, Sava and the Danube,
where the view from the Belgrade Fortress replenishes your energy and
reminds you of the beauty of nature and of life. It is a place where
the border between East and West fades, where the mixture of
cultures, traditions and customs have planted a deep feeling of
hospitality among Belgrade’s citizens.
This is an opportunity of
a lifetime...
Take a walk down Knez
Mihailova Street, always full of Belgrade people, where old and
modern architectures convey the spirit and the creativity of local
and foreign architects. Explore the Belgrade Fortress, where over 114
great battles were fought for this city. Visit the new urban
neighborhood Sava Mala, unofficially called the Little Berlin of
Belgrade. Have lunch or dinner in the bohemian street of Skadarlija,
with delicious food and great homemade wine and rakija (local
brandy), to the songs of local musicians that stop time and awaken
the senses. Near our hostel is the district of Zemun. The highest
point in Zemun is the Gardoš hill, overlooking the entire
Zemun, Danube and the Belgrade city center. The area around Gardoš
is known for its narrow and cobblestone streets and specific
architecture. At the foot of the hill, on the Zemunski Kej (the Zemun
quay) on the banks of the Danube, there are many restaurants with
live music, cafes and clubs. It is a popular promenade, where local
fishermen and artists, with their river boats and galleries. Get
acquainted with the spirituality of the city and its religion through
churches, monasteries and the greatest orthodox Temple of Saint Sava
in Vračar.
If you are feeling
lucky...
You will certainly enjoy
one of the film, art or design festivals, but also one of the newest
beer festivals (our hostel is located near the location where the
festival takes place, as well as many concerts of local and
international stars), ship carnivals, sports events – the Belgrade
Marathon, soccer and basketball games. The Nikola Tesla Museum,
dedicated to one of the greatest scientists in history, will show you
the secrets of how electricity was made and how it was tamed. There
are many other museums whose installations tell the story of the
city, its tradition and customs that make it unique.
And even if you need a
bit of rest...
Visit one of 2000 night
clubs, discos, bars and cafes in Belgrade, where after a long night
of partying the light of dawn comes to remind you that night will
come again when the day is done, bringing with it new energy and fun.
During the day, as you wait for the sun to set, drink some coffee and
eat some fresh sweet water fish or barbeque.
Or if you love nature...
Take a walk down the Ada
Ciganlija lake, with an 8km long bike path and walk, that you can
reach from the hostel by bicycle. There you can swim, fish (Ada
safari), play golf or sports at one of 60 sports fields around Ada
Ciganlija.
